Frequently Asked Questions
Who are we?
Princess Margaret Nursery School is a non-profit organization located within the portables in St.
George’s Junior Public School in Toronto’s Princess-Rosethorn neighbourhood. We offer
programs for children 2 to 4 years of age. Our programs are thematic and play based and foster
children’s social, cognitive, emotional and physical development.
What is our philosophy?
Princess Margaret Nursery School is dedicated to supporting children’s learning, development,
health and well-being. We believe that children grow, flourish and succeed in programs that
focus on active learning through exploration, play and inquiry. Through this active learning
process, children learn that they are capable, and that they are able to make decisions and
solve problems about activities that are meaningful to them. Children learn best when they are
interested and engaged in play experiences both indoors and outdoors that encourage and
support exploration and manipulation of materials of their own choosing.
Our programs provide a variety of positive learning experiences that support child initiated
learning and adult supported experiences, including indoor and outdoor play, active play and
opportunities for rest and quiet time. Daily programming is developed and adapted by the staff
to reflect children’s individual stage of development and interests. These learning experiences
are based on observations of each child and on the staff’s knowledge and training regarding child development and learning. We believe that it is important to incorporate flexibility in our programming so that each child can indulge their curiosities and extend their capabilities.
What programs are offered?
We offer a 2 day Toddler Program, a 3 day Preschool program, or a 5 day preschool program. The school is open from September to June. We follow the TDSB school year calendar and are closed for statutory holidays, and seasonal holidays.

What are the fees?
There is a one-time non-refundable registration fee that applies to families when registering. Please contact Danielle at [email protected] to inquire about our current fee schedule.
What is the teacher/child ratio per class?
There are a maximum 8 children in our Toddler class and two teachers present at all times. There are a maximum of 16 children in our Preschool classes and 2 to 3 teachers present depending on enrollment.
What is a "shared snack" program?
Each family is responsible for providing a nutritious snack along with water, milk, or pure fruit or vegetable juice on a rotational basis for the entire class. Parents are encouraged to bring healthy well-balanced snacks that will provide not only nutrition but will also allow children to taste a wide variety of foods. Drinking water is always available. A snack calendar is posted for each month (as well as a copy e-mailed or sent home). We do not accept snacks that may contain nuts. Allergies will be clearly noted on the snack calendars and safe snack suggestions are provided in the Parent Handbook.
Are there any medical forms that I need to submit before my child begins the program?
Yes. Immunizations are mandatory and you must submit a copy of your child's immunization record prior to the start of school. There are also specific medical forms that must be filled out for children with asthma or life threatening allergies (anaphylaxis).
